The second event in Manchester Food and Drink Festival’s ‘Hidden Banquet’ series,  is taking place at The Bonded Warehouse on Saturday 8th October, and will raise vital funds for Action Against Hunger.  “INDUSTRY” by Dan Doherty will be a banquet for 175 people at one of the most important buildings in shaping Manchester’s industrial heritage  – The Bonded Warehouse.

The Hidden Banquets series programmed in partnership with Allied London will allow festival-goers to explore some of the city’s secret, undiscovered and down right jaw dropping spaces, in association with the nation’s most talented and exciting chefs and food heroes, all in the context of Manchester’s cultural identity and heritage.

Dan, who is Group Executive Chef at London’s acclaimed, 24-hour restaurant - Duck and Waffle, has chosen to raise vital funds for a charity very close to his heart, Action Against Hunger, whom Dan has supported for many years.

He comments:
“Action Against Hunger is an obvious charity for me. As chefs we spend so much time refining food, it makes sense to make sure those that don't have any, get some. Not many people have the luxury to do what they love. I am one of the lucky ones… As a chef, I have the opportunity to be inventive and create truly memorable experiences that resonate with people, and I’m looking forward to doing that in a fantastic city and such an extraordinary location.”

Dan brings a rich and colourful wealth of experience to his role at The Duck and Waffle and is known for having an incredible zeal and vivacity, reflected in the energy of his team and the flavours of his menu, which pays homage to classic British cookery. Dan is all about creating ingredients-led, vibrant “Wow!” factor food that is a true pleasure for guests.

Dan will be bringing his unique creativity, flair and passion to Manchester especially for the Festival, as he creates a bespoke banquet under the theme of “Industry” - a feast that will celebrate this most integral aspect of Manchester’s heritage.

The banquet will take place in the top floor of the Bonded Warehouse. Built in the 1860s, the venue is a piece of architectural heritage located within the heart of the new St. John’s neighbourhood, which forged modern day Manchester. It will be brought back into modern day use in 2017, as part of Allied London’s new ‘Enterprise City’ with the introduction of vibrant restaurants and bars on the lower ground floors and loft-style, modern, open-plan workspace on the upper levels.

This will be a chance to dine in an extraordinary space not seen by the public for decades, before the building is redeveloped.

Historian, Blue Badge Guide and author, Jonathan Schofield, will set the historical scene throughout dinner –bringing the building’s past to life, as well as Manchester’s wider role in the industrial revolution and everything that means for us here today.

This is a once-off opportunity to feast in an incredible, unexplored space overlooking the city. It’s a chance to reflect on Manchester’s place in the world, and in history, over a bespoke banquet created especially for the occasion by a very special guest chef.

The banquet is an Action Against Hunger event, with a donation from all proceeds going to the charity.

There are 175 tickets for the banquet, priced at £75.
